COVID 19 Omicron: US Tightens Travel Rules

President Joe Biden has introduced more rigorous travel rules as the United States confirms its first few cases of the COVID 19 Omicron variant.

From next week, all international travelers coming to the United States must get a Covid test 24 hours before leaving their country, regardless of their vaccination status.

The president also disclosed that mask requirements on planes, trains, and buses will be extended till March 2022. The country will also make free home tests available.

Since the emergence of the new strain, 10 cases have been confirmed in the United States in the following states- California, Colorado, Minnesota, and New York.

Health officials have also recorded a case in Hawaii where the person had no recent travel history.

Reports have it that the variant has now been spread to more than 30 countries across various continents.

The United States has urged all adults to get COVID 19 boosters in anticipation of COVID cases surging in the winter.
