  • The federal government is set to impose a travel ban on India, Brazil, and Turkey due to the high number of Coronavirus cases in those countries

  • According to Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID 19, the presidency was trying to stop the entry of a new variant of the virus found in these areas

  • India has been overrun with new cases of the virus, recording 300,000 cases and 2,000 deaths daily

The federal government is set to impose a travel ban on India, Brazil, and Turkey within the next two days.

The decision comes following the discovery of new variants of COVID 19 in those states.

During a news conference in Abuja, Head, Technical Secretariat of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID, Mukhtar Muhammad expressed concerns over India’s current situation.

COVID 19 travel ban Nigeria

The Asian giant has been overwhelmed by new cases of the virus, recording over 300,000 new cases daily and 2,000 deaths.

India is known as a common destination for medical tourists from Nigeria.

Mr. Muhammad advised Nigerians to keep observing COVID regulations to avoid a third wave of the pandemic.

The PSC also urged Nigerians to limit their traveling to only essential countries at this time.

The COVID committee will also provide Nigerians with travel advice in the coming days to guide their movements.
