COVID 19 4th Wave Hits Nigeria

  • The NCDC has reported that Nigeria is experiencing its 4th wave of the COVID 19 pandemic
  • The call was made as the country has experienced a 500 percent increase in cases in the last two weeks
  • The disease control center urged all Nigerians to take caution during the festive period to limit the spread of the virus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Monday disclosed that Nigeria is experiencing its fourth wave of the COVID 19 pandemic following a 500 percent increase in cases over the past 2 weeks.

The disclosure was made by the NCDC in a statement that was signed and released by the Director-General, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa.

Following the report, the disease control center has urged Nigerians to take caution during the Yuletide season to avoid the spread of the virus.

A portion of the statement reads:

“The country is now in a fourth COVID-19 wave. The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, the Federal Ministry of Health, as well as NCDC and its partners, are therefore intensifying risk communication efforts to remind Nigerians of the risk we face and need to take collective responsibility to reduce transmission of the virus.”

The statement disclosed that the country has recorded a total of 223,887 cases with 2985 deaths so far, across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The NCDC chairman urged individuals, families, and institutions to play their part by protecting each other by adhering to COVID 19 safety guidelines.
