Just a few days after receiving 4 million doses of COVID 19 vaccine from the United States, Nigeria may be set to receive more.

Africa Union has disclosed that monthly shipment of 400m doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine acquired through African Vaccine Acquisition Trust will begin on Thursday.
The director of the Africa Centre for Disease Control, Dr John Nkengasong passed this information during a virtual briefing about COVID on Thursday.
According to initial agreements, the procured vaccines will be distributed among 55 member states of the Africa Union which includes Nigeria.
The vaccine supplies will help these countries in the battle against the high transmissible virus.

AU announced that a target had been set to vaccinate at least 60% of Africa’s population and manage the spread of COVID-19.
The vaccine delivery comes at a critical time for Nigeria as the country is currently in the middle of a COVID-19 third wave.
The country has been recording daily cases that haven’t been witnessed in over 6 months.

The latest report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Friday morning shows that 566 new infections were recorded with 11 deaths.
