Jack Dorsey Leaves Twitter Board After 16 Years

  • Jack Dorsey has completely quit Twitter, vacating his seat on the board of directors of the company.
  • The news comes amid controversy surrounding a takeover attempt of the social media giant by Elon Musk.
  • Dorsey reportedly didn’t stand for re-election when his current tenure expired on Wednesday.

Jack Dorsey has left Twitter’s board of directors 16 years after he co-founded the social media company.

Dorsey stepped down from the company’s board on Wednesday and the change took effect immediately after a shareholders meeting on the same day.

The decision comes less than a year after the billionaire quit being the CEO of the social media platform. He vacated the chief executive role to dedicate more time to the development of fintech company, Block.

The plan for Dorsey to quit the board has reportedly been in place since he stepped down as CEO. Last year, the company noted that he will stay on the board until his term expires at the 2022 stockholders’ meeting.

Dorsey’s exit from the board marks the end of an era which runs from the founding of the company. It comes at a time when the social media platform is expected to undergo a major change as Elon Musk pushes on with his takeover attempt.

It should be noted that Jack Dorsey supports the sale of Twitter to the Tesla CEO. In a tweet showing his support, he said:

“Jack Dorsey is the singular solution I trust”

Elon Musk

At the same shareholder meeting on Wednesday, Twitter’s board voted in support of removing board member, Egon Durban. Durban, who is the CEO of private equity firm Silver Lake, has been accused of being an Elon Musk ally.
