ASUU- It is Unsafe to Open Nigerian Universities Now
Nigerian Universities are unlikely to resume on January 18
ASUU believes that the second wave of coronavirus will be putting people at risk
University lack basic materials to handle the pandemic
The leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have revealed that Universities are not prepared to resume. This is down to the lack of materials required to curb the spread of the virus as revealed by union leaders in an interview with Punch.

The union chairman at Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr. Adeola Egbedokun stated that ASUU cannot afford to put the lives of students at risk. Dr. Egbedokun also stated that parents must insist on safe re-opening of universities to protect their children.
Dr. Egbedokun also went on to say that the government had failed to address deficits in public universities during the time of the strike.
The Chairman of the FUNAAB Chapter, Dr. Adebayo Oni added that the public universities lack protective materials, and lecturers have not been provided with hand sanitizers. In the absence of these materials, universities will not be able to deal with a surge of students.
Students have taken to social media to express their displease at ASUU’s decision.

Public university students have been out of school for 10 months after The Union embarked on a strike in March which was only called off in December 2020.
