Ukraine to Sell NFTs as Crypto Donations Hit $60 Million

  • Ukraine is set to begin the sale of NFTs that it has received as donations since the start of the war, Bloomberg has reported
  • The country has announced that a web page will be launched for the sale of the NFTs in the coming days
  • According to the country’s Digital Transformation ministry, more than 300 NFTs have been received so far, but less than 10% are valuable

Ukraine is about to launch a website for the sale of an estimated 300 non-fungible tokens that have been received in donations since the start of the war.

The NFTs to be sold on the web page includes a CryptoPunk that is expected to fetch about $200,000 for the country. The plan was revealed by the deputy minister of Digital Transformation, Alex Bornyakov.

Bornyakov revealed that only between 5 and 10% of the donated NFTs hold value at the moment. Along with the donated NFTs, the web page will also offer 10 NFT collections created by Independent companies for sale. These companies have also pledged the proceeds of their NFT sales to Ukraine.

Bornyakov also stated that the sale will be carried out on the world’s largest NFT marketplace, OpenSea.

Since the start of the war, crypto donations have been utilized by the Ukrainian government to raise funds for medical supplies and weapons for fighters.

Just yesterday, the country received 32 BTC worth $1.5 million, raising its total cryptocurrency donations to $60 million. Bornyakov revealed that $41 million out of Ukraine’s total donations have been spent.
