President Buhari Declares Monday Work-free Day for the Military

President Muhammadu Buhari ordered that the national flag should be flown at half-mast in every public facility, building and official residences in Nigeria from Monday, May 24, 2021to Wednesday, May 26, 2021.

His excellency’s directive is in the honour of late Cheif of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and other senior military officers and servicemen who died in a plane crash on Friday, May 21, 2021.

This disclosure was included in a statement that was signed and issued on Sunday, May 23, 2021, by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF).

He stated that the President approved Monday as a work-free day for all members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

President Buhari described the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru as an institution builder and an outstanding soldier who fought bravely for the country till he breathed his last.

President Buhari had a telephone conversation on Sunday evening with the wife of the late COAS, Mrs Fati Ibrahim Attahiru, and the spouses of the other late officers through her.

He praised the sacrifices of the late military men, and the entire Armed Forces, stating that Nigerians would continue to appreciate and support their bravery for confronting the threats the nation is encountering.

He assured the grieving spouses that the nation will never forget the great sacrifice of their spouses, he encouraged them to find peace in the excess gush of feelings of emotions from every states, tribes and religion across the country appreciating their sacrifices.

Mrs Attahiru, on behalf of other families, appreciated President Buhari for the love and care he had shown to them.
