WhatsApp to Copy Major Facebook Feature

  • WhatsApp is set to borrow the cover photos feature from sister platform Facebook in a bid to spice up its messaging app
  • The company has begun testing an early version of the feature on the beta version of the app
  • An official release date for the feature is not known and it remains possible for the company to scrap its plans

Instant messaging platform WhatsApp has begun testing an early version of Facebook’s cover photos feature, with intentions of copying it.

The potential new update was noted by WABetaInfo, a website that is recognized for uncovering new and upcoming features.
The cover photo which is an iconic feature on Facebook, allows users to upload an image that appears broader than the standard profile picture. The feature is so popular that it has been borrowed by many other social networks, including Twitter.
The feature is currently testing for business accounts alone but there is a chance that it could be launched for both business and general users.
Although WABetaInfo confirmed the potential launch of this feature, a release date was not disclosed. It is also entirely possible that the company may decide to scrap the feature and prevent it from ever launching.
