Zoom to Charge Nigerians 7.5% VAT From 2022

  • Video communications platform Zoom has disclosed that it will begin charging customers in Nigeria 7.5 percent value-added tax
  • The video conferencing platform disclose this on Monday, stating that the policy will take effect from January 1, 2022
  • The additional charge is due to a new VAT policy imposed by the federal government in Nigeria

Zoom Video Communications, Inc. has announced that customers in Nigeria will now be charged 7.5 percent value-added tax (VAT)from January 1, 2022.

The policy change was disclosed in a statement that was issued by the company on Monday.

The statement confirmed that the VAT included is a result of a new VAT policy in Nigeria imposed by the federal government.

It comes only a few days after Facebook also announced that Nigerians will pay 7.5 VAT for all ads from January 1, 2022.

A part of the statement reads:

“For customers with a sold to address in Nigeria, Zoom will begin applying VAT to invoices and remitting the VAT collected through Zoom’s VAT registration in Nigeria in accordance with the new rules relating to Value Added Tax for Non-Resident Suppliers of Electronically Supplied Services,”

The company disclosed that the policy applies to both those who are registered for VAT in Nigeria and people who aren’t.

The statement also urged all customers who are registered for VAT in Nigeria to submit their Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs).
