Third Mainland Bridge Reopened

-Third mainland bridge in Lagos has been reopened ahead of schedule

-FG announced that the bridge will be shut down for 3 days to allow time for some repair

-Riders have started using the bridge since midnight of January 31

The Federal Controller of Works, Mr. Olukayode Popoola announced that the total closure of the third mainland bridge will be lifted on January 31.

While speaking to a news agency, Mr. Popoola disclosed that the construction company finished repairs ahead of schedule and the bridge will be opened 24 hours earlier.

He revealed added that motorists can start using the bridge from midnight of January 31.

Mr. Popoola thanked motorists for their patience and understanding while the repairs were on.

He revealed that the relevant agencies will ensure that traffic on the bride will be as seamless as possible.

FG had earlier announced that third mainland bridge will be closed for 3 days, starting from midnight on Friday, January 29.

The bridge had also been subject to a series of repairs last year.

In July 2020, it was partially shut down for 7 months to allow contractors to carry out repairs.

3rd mainland bridge is the longest of 3 bridges that connect Lagos highland to the mainland.

The bridge was constructed in 1990, at which time it was the longest in Africa.
