– The agency has allegedly acquired equipment to spy on calls and text messages by Nigerians.

– Investigation by Canadian based Citizen Lab, an interdisciplinary laboratory reveals.

The Nigerian government through the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) have reportedly procured equipment capable of spying on its citizen by bugging calls and SMS.

The Citizen Lab, based out of Canada’s University of Toronto is an interdisciplinary laboratory with interest in investigating digital espionage against civil society.

According to its latest report Nigeria’s military intelligence agency maybe using a protocol suite designed to route phone calls known as Signaling System 7 (SS7), to spy on calls between wireless telecommunication companies.

DIA were reported to have acquired the system from Circles, an information technology firm that develops assets capable of snooping on calls, texts, and the location of phones.

Meanwhile, we earlier reported that the Nigerian Chief-of-Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has sent strong warnings to military generals against attempting coup against the country, vowing that the Nigerian Army will never accommodate any agent bent on destabilizing the current democratic dispensation.
