Lekki Shooting: ”If People died, let their people speak out or it’s a lie” – Omotola

Nollywood veteran actress, Omotola Jolade Ekeinde has claimed that nobody died during the Lekki shooting on Tuesday, 20 October, 2020.

On that day, hundreds of protesters had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate, which was obviously the ground zero of the #ENDSARS protest. Young Nigerians had been there for days in demonstration against police brutality.

By evening, a troop of military personnel reportedly opened fire on the protesters who were merely singing the nation’s anthem. The action allegedly led to many casualties and video evidence and those of people on the ground revealed there were some numbers of deaths.

The number of dead victims and the fact that there were any fatalities at all had become a controversial topic ever since the incident on Tuesday. The governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu also claimed there were no deaths recorded at the scene of the attack. He made this claim after visiting some of the victims at several hospitals where they were admitted.

Omotola seems to have taken side with the governor’s position, asking families of victims to come out with evidence that they lost anyone in the incident at Lekki.

“If People died during the Lekki Toll Assault , let their people speak out please and if there were No deaths then enough with the sensationalization because it does not remove from the Crime that happened. PEACEFUL PROTESTERS WERE ATTACKED. WHY? BY WHOM ! #EndImpunityinNigeria

“EVERYONE who was involved in turning the protest into a Violent Rollercoaster should now be brought to book! If not, then everything else is a LIE! Calling on journalist, Investigators, NGOs pls we have work to do. No lies. No fear”
