Lagos State to Establish 2 New Universities

The Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has signed a bill to establish two more universities in the state.

One will be a University of Education (LASUED), while the other will be a university of Science and Technology.
The bill was signed by Governor Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday at the Lagos House, Marina, and in attendance were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo.

During the signing of the bill, it was disclosed that the state polytechnic in Ikorodu, Isolo, and Surulere will be converted to the University of Science and Technology, while Adeniran Ogunsanya Colleges of Education and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education will be upgraded to the University of Education.
The latest announcement means that Lagos will now have two new universities in addition to LASU which was established in 1982.

Governor Sanwo-Olu gave assurances that he believes that the transition from the schools into Universities will be a successful process without any hindrance.

He also stated that the bill was signed hastily so that the law can be taken to the National Universities Commission to give approval for the Universities.
