Kogi Petrol Tanker Explosion Claims 30 Lives Including Students

A bus conveying primary and secondary students, some students of Kogi State Polytechnic as well as passersby and residents were reportedly engulfed by a fire sparked by a petrol tanker at Felele area of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital in the early hours of today, Wednesday.

Although the numbers of casualties is still unknown as at press time, a report claimed that at least 30 lives were lost in the tragic incident.

According to eyewitness that spoke to newsmen, the petrol tanker moving from Okene and heading towards to northern part of the country to deposits it content encountered a brake failure at Felele, it them spined out of control and rammed into vehicles coming from the opposite direction.

Unfortunately, it was learnt that Fire Service didn’t show up on time despite being informed an hour into the incident, thereby causing more damages than it ought to have been.

In reaction to the tragedy, a statement signed by Onogwu Muhammed, the spokesman to Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi State, quoted the governor to have expressed his condolence to the families of those who suffered casualties from the inferno.

He went further by urging the students of Kogi State Polytechnic whose colleagues were victim to remain calm and peaceful, expressing that he shared in their grieving moment.
