Ikoyi Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises to 36

  • The death toll from the Ikoyi building collapse on Monday has reportedly reached 36
  • Of the total confirmed deaths so far, 33 are males while 3 are females
  • National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also confirmed that 9 people (8 males and 1 female) have been rescued so far

32 people have been confirmed dead in the 21-story building that collapsed in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday.

The death toll was confirmed by the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye.

Mr. Farinloye confirmed that of the 36 deaths so far, 3 are females while 33 are males.

The NEMA boss also disclosed that 9 people have been reduced from the rubble so far, eight being men while one is a lady.

More hands have joined the rescue team as they continue to search through the debris for survivors from the Ikoyi building collapse.

“Out of the survivors, we have one female and eight male. Out of the dead, we have three female and 33 male dead bodies. Rescue work is still ongoing and more hands have joined the rescue team”.


It’s been almost 72 hours since the 21-story building came down but families are hopeful that their loved ones have somehow managed to survive beneath the crash site.
