-FG states that the Bank Verification Number is only for bank account holders unlike National Identification Number
-Nigerians had recently been ordered to link their NIN to their mobile numbers to avoid being blocked
The Federal Government has stated that it has plans to replace the Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) with the National Identification Number (NIN).
The information was passed by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami.

Dr. Pantanmi revealed that President Buhari is currently impressed with current NIN registrations. The president is also looking at replacing the Bank Verification Number with NIN.
Pantami believes the NIN to be a better option because it is used by all Nigerians, irrespective of their status, unlike BVN that is used by only bank holders.
Pantami also added that the Bank Verification Number is the policy of banks and it may not be completely the same with the NIN.
According to the NIMC Act of 2007, all citizens must be enrolled for the NIN. The same goes for legal residents who are staying for at least 24 months.
Nigerians have complained about the linkage of NIN and mobile number that was recently implemented.
Many people find this shocking as it could be the start of another difficult registration process.
FG may replace BVN with NIN ~ Pantami.
BVN has been used to checkmate massive corruption by individuals, now the govt. wants to change BVN to NIN.
Are they really fighting corruption?
