FG Declares Independence Day Holiday

Friday, October 1 has been declared a public holiday by the federal government, to mark the Nation’s 61st Independence day.

Nigeria’s minister of interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola announced this on Wednesday while speaking on behalf of the government.

Aregbesola congratulated Nigerians on the celebration of this year’s independence and guaranteed the government’s devotion to tackling all of the nation’s challenges.

The minister also praised Nigerians for their excellence in various fields including Academia, Business, Innovation, Music, movies, Entertainment, Fashion, and culture.

“Our warmth, welcoming spirit, and love as well as the abundant wealth inherent in our human capital and the richness of our land, make Nigeria unarguably the leading black nation in the world and Africa’s pride and beacon of hope if we can rally ourselves together to harness our potentials.

“A country of about 200 million and above people whose natural talent, grit, and passion glitter like the precious DIAMOND that we are. Nigerians are sparkling like diamonds in the pack, whether in Academia, Business, Innovation, Music, Movie, Entertainment, Fashion, and culture.

Also, Aregbesola urged everyone to be cautious while celebrating this year’s Independence Anniversary due to safety concerns about COVID 19.

In ending, he urged Nigerians to be united like the founding fathers of the nation despite tribe, religion, and language differences.

Meanwhile, this year’s Independence Day will usher in the use of Nigeria’s first digital currency- eNaira.

The CBN has announced that the online currency will be launched on October 1st and the website has gone live already.
