Breaking! FG Lifts Ban on Sim Registration
The federal government has lifted last year’s ban on sim registration
Starting from Monday, April 19, 2021, new sims can be purchased and registered in Nigeria
The National Identity Number (NIN) will be one of the prerequisites for sim registration
The Federal government has lifted the ban on SIM registration from December last year.
The new order will allow users to register newly acquired sim cards from Monday, April 19, 2021.
As part of the conditions for registration now, users will need to provide their National Identification Number (NIN).
This latest development for Sim registration was passed in the National Digital Identity Policy for SIM Card Registration and it was approved by President Buhari.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Femi Adeluyi, sim registration, and other suspended activities can be performed as long as guidelines are followed.
The Minister also urged NCC and NIMC to ensure that policies are followed strictly by new subscribers and mobile service operators.

The possession of a National Identity number will be a prerequisite for each of these categories. For the Corporate registration, institutions will be required to appoint a Telecoms Master (at the minimum of an Executive Management level) to provide the operational Primary NIN representation.
