
President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government on Sunday slammed the Academic Staff Union Universities (ASUU) admitting that the crisis surrounding the seven-month strike by the union leadership were confusing.

According to Emeka Nwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education who made this claim to journalist reportedly accused the union of muddling things up over the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.
The Union however swiftly responded to the accusation, alleging that the government wanted to turn Nigerians against university lecturers.

ASUU had seven months ago, on March 23 embarked on an indefinite strike over the government’s insistence on implementing the IPPIS, which the administration insisted all its employees must adopt for their salaries to be paid.
Aside being against the adoption of the IPPIS, the union also accused the government of not keeping to the agreements they had both signed a few years ago.
According to Biodun Ogunyemi,the National Chairman of ASUU, the issue of IPPIS has been in the table since 2013, two years before the current administration came into government, hence they may not fukky comprehend the struggle.
