The tennis great announced via Snapchat on Wednesday that she is 20 weeks pregnant with her first child.
If our calculations are right, it means Ms. Williams was pregnant while winning a Grand Slam during the Australian Open 2017.
The news comes just a few months after Ms. Williams announced that she’s engaged to Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian.
Recall that in December last year, she announced her engagement to Ohanian.
On Wednesday, she revealed posted a photo of herself in a bathing suit on Snapchat with the caption “20 weeks.”
The 35-year-old, who will return to the No. 1 ranking in the world next week, later deleted the photo.
But a representative for Ms. Williams eventually confirmed to NBC that the tennis great is “expecting a baby this fall.”
That notwithstanding, she was approximately two months pregnant when she captured her record 23rd Grand Slam tournament title at the Australian Open in January.
Her victory over older sister Venus Williams broke a tie with Steffi Graf for the most Grand Slam singles championships in the sport’s modern era.

Ms Williams has not played since citing a knee injury.
She is the highest-paid female athlete in the world, who has played professionally for two decades.
The professional tennis player first gained the No. 1 ranking in 2002 and has held that spot for more than six years in total during her career.
At an age when most tennis professionals have already retired, Williams still dominates the women’s tour.
Some fans have reacted with a mixture of awe and glee at the news of her pregnancy.
A black American Twitter user, Ashley-Chan’te, said any man attracted to Serena Williams is gay.
