Remember the brave policeman who shot one of the armed robbers dead in the daylight robbery attack at Zenith Bank in Owerri? Kind hearted Nigerians have raised N4m in 9 hours to honour him. This comes after Kayode Ogundamisi made a move to make the family of late Sergeant Iboko comfortable. Ogundamisi’s effort has really paid off as Nigerians have donated to the GoFundMe account launched to this effect. Nigerians raise N4m in 9 hours to honour slain Police hero.
The philanthropist made this known on his social media profiles. He wrote: “Nigerians have raised N2M for the family of the late Policeman, which is much more than the initial 200k target set. However according to what we have now, the amount raised is almost 4million naira now.”

Well meaning Nigerians have never slacked in fund raising. Of course only God can bless our coasts as we give more to help those desperately in need.
The brave policeman, Iboko, who spent only three days at the bank before the attack, died in April after engaging a gang of four robbers who trailed a customer to the Wetheral Road branch of Zenith Bank in Owerri, Imo State, on February 22, 2017, in a shootout.
Though the incident happened four months ago, the video of the encounter, captured by the bank’s CCTV, wnet viral last week, with many saluting the rare valour displayed by the cop to the detriment of his life.

On arrival, as revealed in the video, the robbers were seen shooting indiscriminately as they stormed the bank, attacked the customer and carted away the money which the victim wanted to deposit in the bank. The security guard opened the gate and the armed robbers drove in but stopped their car right in front of the entrance when they dispersed from the vehicle and started shooting sporadically.
To evade death, of course, the security guard took off but thankfully, there was a brave police officer in mufti, attached to the bank who was at a small corner in the security outlet (that’s Iboko). He shot dead one of the armed robbers whom the rest abandoned as they made their getaway after the robbery but unfortunately, Iboko died as a result of the gunshot injuries he sustained during the shootout.

Iboko has since been buried but an unfortunate incident played out during his burial. His 5-year-old son was reported to have slumped and died at dad’s burial. Also, Iboko’s wife, Rose, in a chat with newsmen said the bank and the Nigeria Police Force abandoned her and her seven children after the incident. TOO BAD.
We do hope that the funds recovered from the GoFundMe set up by Ogundamisi will help the family the brave policeman left behind.
