A 34-year-old Nigerian man has declared his intentions to replace President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 elections. The young politician, identified as Ibrahim Abubaka Lajada, revealed three things he planned to do as president ‘when’ he wins. Lajada is a Nigerian billionaire living abroad. Nigerian billionaire declares intention to replace Buhari as president in 2019.

After he declared his intention to run for presidency in 2019, he said:

Second, I will improve economic growth and fight corruption and lastly, I would make certain that everyone has equal and fair treatment in our society. Our education system in Nigeria is not one in which we should be very proud of. Yes, Nigeria does have excellent schools, colleges, and learning institutions, but our standards are not set as high as other countries. For example, our country does not fund our schools adequately. Teachers teach with not enough books, no supplies, or books that are often over 30 years old. How can we expect our children to be up to date with the world’s information if our teaching materials are not new?”

“Often teachers in our public schools are forced to buy text books and supplies for our children with their own personal money. Why do they do this? Because they believe in a good education for all learners. Our country “prides” itself on the quality of education a person can receive here, yet teachers are one of the country’s lowest paid professionals. Some of our teachers are not well qualified.

Lajada’s intention to run for presidency in 2019 generated reactions from Nigerians on social media and he made his intentions known after 39-year-old Emmanuel Macron won his bid to be next France President after defeating Marine Le Pen.

Recall that Macron beat Le Pen in Sunday’s French election, polling more than 65 per cent of the votes cast, according to French news reports. Polling conducted by Ipsos, Ifop and BVA all gave Mr. Macron, the pro-business candidate, a strong lead over Front National leader, Marine Le Pen. The new French leader– who formed his party just 12 months ago and has no members of parliament – has celebrated his victory in downtown Paris, the AFP reported Sunday.

But seriously, I think Nigeria needs this. We need young blood to run this country for once and let’s see where it heads to. The idea of old men old enough to be our fore-fathers running for President is sickening…but, would they ever agree?

What do you think about Lajada’s intention? Do you think he stands any slight chance?
