Kemi Olunloyo released from PortHarcourt prison after 81 days

Popular US trained journalist, Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo, has been released from PortHarcourt prison after 81 days. Ms. Olunloyo was arrested for defamation and false publication against the General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie. On March 5, she was picked up from her Ibadan home by the police for a story she posted about Pastor Ibiyeomie and Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo. Madame KOO, as she is fondly called, was released, only to be re-arrested shortly after a Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt granted her bail to the tune of N200, 000, along with a Port Harcourt based publisher, Samuel Walson. She was again re-arraigned before Justice H.O Oshomah where she pleaded not guilty to the fresh charges. Kemi Olunloyo released from PortHarcourt prison after 81 days.

A few days ago, the social media enthusiast accused the chief registrar attached to the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court of sitting on her case in order to keep her perpetually behind bars, despite having allegedly met her bail conditions, although, Maimunat Folami, the Deputy Chief Registrar, strongly denied the allegations, stating that her office had cooperated fully with Ms. Omololu-Olunloyo’s counsel to ensure proper vetting of her bail documents.

Confirming her release from prison, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode took to his Twitter account to announce her release after 81 days in detention.

He tweeted: “After 81 days in prison @HNNAfrica has finally been released.We thank God. Kudos to Lawyer Kayode Ajulo for working so hard to get her out.

The outspoken media personality, on her Instagram page @HNNAfrica said she has been released. She was celebrated with drums, music, crying inmates, prison staff while waving to crowds in an emotional release after 81 days.

This is good news to me. My friend and personal person. Her guts know no bounds and I am excited you have her out of the hole. I’m sure she did not deserve this treatment but trust me, it only made her stronger.
