Nollywood movie director, Niyi Akinmolayan, has said God does not need people’s money because humans invented money. His opinion is not unconnected to the controversies surrounding payment of tithes in churches, which has been a bone of contention lately in the Nigerian social media community. Actor Niyi Akinmolayan says.
The filmmaker, who obviously does not support Christians paying tithes, referred to the bible as an ‘old Jewish book’ which humans love analyzing.

Here’s what he said, “When I was a teenager my pastor told us if anyone gave us a gift we should find out the price in naira and pay the as tithe. How can God need money when humans invented it?
“I don’t know why I should regard ‘Malachi 3 on tithes and disregard ‘Malachi 1’ on sacrifices and ‘Malachi 2’ on divorce.. smh. Africans, if I put up a post for child education in Africa I wouldn’t get anything oh. See thesis analyzing an old jewish book.
“The best religious conversation I’ve ever had was with a babalawo, an educated priest in traditional religion. He didn’t have a book to fall on,” he added.

So much has been said about the Bible and payment of tithes. Sometime in August, Seun Kuti, son of late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo, accused God of plagiarism. The singer, whose public criticism of persons knows no bound, took to his Instagram page to make his claims. On his part, controversial Cool FM On Air Personality, OAP Freeze, whose public criticisms of ‘men of God’ know no bounds, had urged churchgoers to be wise and never pay tithes to any pastor. He took to his Instagram page to share series of Bible verses to support his argument by quoting Deuteronomy 14:22 which says, eat your own tithe! He also quoted other scriptures..
