South Africa’s celebrity, On Air Personality, OAP, Bonang Matheba, says Nigerian music star, Tiwa Savage, is the only celebrated female artists in Nigeria. Bonang, who is rapper AKA’s girlfriend, said this in a recent interview. OAP Bonang says it is wrong Tiwa Savage is the only female artiste celebrated in Nigeria.

She called on the Nigerian entertainment industry to quickly tie the loose ends on their regard for female creatives. Bonang insisted that her country celebrates female entertainers more than Nigeria, which to her mind, has bigger clout and should therefore set good examples.

OAP Bonang says it is wrong Tiwa Savage is the only female artiste celebrated in NigeriaHere’s what she said;

“Tiwa Savage is the only popular female voice in Nigeria that is greatly celebrated, while the rest of the country honours and recognises men more. This is an area of observation that can be more elevated. Our [South Africa’s] industry is far much kinder to our female counterparts and genuinely celebrates them and allows them to shine,” the OAP added.

Indeed, Bonang is not wrong. Less is often said about other female artists in Nigeria but of course, why not? Tiwa deserves it. She is a singer, songwriter, performer and actress who is currently signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing as a songwriter. The 37-year-old mother of one signed a recording contract with Mavin Records in 2012 and she officially became ‘Mavin First Lady’.

As a singer, her achievements include two City People Entertainment Awards, two The Headies Awards, one MTV Africa Music Award, one Channel O Music Video Award, one Nigeria Music Video Award, and many others.

No doubt, with all these achievements, one can say she is the most successful female songster in Nigeria, maybe in Africa too?
