The Russia-Ukraine conflict has escalated as the President of Russia ordered a military assault on Ukraine, early on Thursday. There have been reports of explosions near major cities across the country and Putin has declared that Moscow’s response will be swift if anyone tries to stop the invasion.
Ukraine also confirmed the attack. In a video statement on Thursday morning, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said that martial law has now been imposed in all areas of the country.
Zelensky revealed that Russia carried out strikes on Ukraine’s military infrastructure and border guard units. Military headquarters, airfields, and military warehouses in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv had also been hit, according to officials.
This comes after Ukraine’s western allies had warned that Russia was set to invade. Mr. Zelensky disclosed that Russia has stationed almost 200,000 troops and thousands of combat vehicles on Ukraine’s border.
