Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been appointed the chief of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Okonjo-Iweala made history as she is the first Woman and African to hold this seat.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was born in Nigeria and graduate from Havard in the US in 1976.

She was the finance minister of Nigeria and she also managed the foreign finance ministry.

Okonjo-Iweala announced her WTO candidacy and she was supported in all regions apart from the US.

Then-president, Donald Trump decided to throw his support behind Korean candidate Yoo Myung-hee.

President Joe Biden has now shown support for the 66-year-old as she leads the WTO into a new era.

Okonjo-Iweala has faced challenges and handled them properly.

While she was Nigeria’s Finance Minister, her mother was kidnapped and her resignation was demanded but she refused. The release of her mother has secured a few days after.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s goal will now be to rejuvenate the WTO and tackle ongoing issues.

She is also expected to support the participation of females in Global trade.
