A man, name given as Sebastian has lost £407,000 to scammers who possed as Elon Musk.
It all started when Sebastian received a Twitter notification about news he thought was from Musk.
The tweet said “Dogo 4 Doge” and contained a link to a website where there was a Bitcoin giveaway.
The website promised to double any Bitcoin that is sent. People were welcome to send between 0.1 and 20 Bitcoin and get double back in 20 minutes.
Sebastian saw this as a good opportunity decided to send 10 Bitcoin from his home in Cologne Germany.
He waited for his payback of 20 BTC as the clock ticked down from 20 minutes but he didn’t get anything.

Sebastian lost his retirement fund, which was supposed to be the game-changer for his family.
A few days later in Amsterdam, the Bitcoin was withdrawn anonymously.
Sebastian’s blockchain analysis company has tried to get authorities to take action but to no avail.
Sebastian wasn’t the first to fall for that scam and he probably won’t be the last. An estimated $18M has been lost by different people to such scams in 2021 alone.
