Donald Trump insisted that he plans to stick to his emerging social media platform, “Truth Social”. The former U.S president claimed that Truth Social encourages open, free, and honest conversations.

“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH”, Trump told FOX NEWS in a statement. The former POTUS was quizzed shortly before the company announced that Elon Musk had completed a takeover.

The Tesla boss acquired the publicly-traded company at $54.20/share on Monday, valuing Twitter at $44 billion.

Trump’s statement further read:

“I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH. The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter.”

During the January 6 2021 attack on the U.S capitol, Donald Trump was banned permanently on Twitter and other social media platforms.

The suspension was based on what the social media companies presumed as him stirring up violence during the attack.

Trump’s Twitter account, which had over 88 million followers at that time, was suspended for 12 hours at first during the riot before it was then permanently banned.

TRUTH, Trump’s platform launched last month and it has been trying hard to attract users. However, Trump himself has not joined the platform officially yet.

He told FOX that he would join officially “over the next seven days, as planned”. A comeback this week would indicate his return to social media, after over a year away.

As for Twitter, Elon Musk has mentioned that “free speech” is very important in the platform’s future.

The Twitter deal was approved by all members of the board. It is expected to be closed this year, following shareholder and regulatory approval.
