The Robert Lister Bower’s Tower

I would be starting with places you could chill out and relax in Ìbàdàn, stay right here with me as I give you a list of fun and relaxation centres to spend this holiday.

The Robert Lister Bower’s Tower

The first place you want to visit in Ibadan is The Robert Lister Bower’s Tower. The tower is located at the Oke-Are in Ìbàdàn.

The monument was erected in 1836 as a memorial to captain Robert Lister Bower, the first travelling commission for the interior of the Yorùbá land between 1893 and 1897. It is an historic monument put up in honour of the first British resident in Ibadan.

Bower was the appointed by the British government to administer the ancient city which he did between 1893 and 1897.

The tower was designed by Taffy Jones, the same engineer who designed Mapo Hall. The tower is 60 feet high and 11 feet square with two entrances and a spiral staircase that leads to the top of the tower.

From the summit of the tower, you can see the Ìbàdàn round about and appreciate the pre-historicity of Ibadan City.

Bower’s Tower is located on the summit of Oke-Are, the highest hill in ibadan from which you can enjoy a commanding view of the city. Oke-Are (The Army chief’s Hill) is the site central to Agala forest (which is popularly called Igbo Agala by indigenes) in Sapati Area.

And that’s it about Bower’s Tower, you might want to visit the tower during the holiday and whenever you decide, don’t forget to go with a camera or your phone.

Finally, go with that one person who is a badass photographer! You don’t want to take ugly pictures or do you?

Till the next time I bring you gist on places you could visit in Ibadan, stay beautiful and handsome and always smiles for free. I love you, we all love you at Naija.fm.
