A Nigerian secondary school, New Oxford Science Academy has announced that it will be accepting cryptocurrency as payment for school fees.
The kano-based school has announced this decision despite a ban on cryptocurrency among financial institutions in the country.
While speaking to Kano focus, the Proprietor of the school, Sabi’u Musa Haruna announced that parents will be allowed to pay their children’s fees in crypto.
Mr Haruna also urged the government to accept these digital currencies and regulate them in the country.
The proprietor also backed the digital assets to gain more acceptance than fiat currencies in the future.
“We have decided to accept cryptocurrency as school fees because the world today is tilting towards the system. We believe one day, digital money will gain more acceptance than paper money.”

Mr Haruna explained that the decision had been discussed with parents and guardians and it was aimed at easing the payment strain.
At the time of this report, the digital asset that will be accepted by the school remains unknown.
