The fake event broadcast showed old interviews with Apple CEO Tim Cook and urged people to visit the fake website where they got scammed
Some unsuspecting iPhone fans lost their money to scammers during Apple’s launch event for the iPhone 13.
The fraudsters did this by creating a fake event stream, a fake Apple website, and promising the victims free Bitcoin.
The fake stream which was running at the same time as the original iPhone launch event showed old interviews with Apple CEO Tim Cook instead of the “California Streaming”.
Those who stayed around for the stream saw messages pop up, urging them to visit the fake Apple website (www.2021.apple.org).
On the website, a fake Bitcoin giveaway was advertised where people got double the amount of any Bitcoin that they sent.
Although it was a scam, it was well-orchestrated which made it difficult for the victims to figure.

A total of $69,000 in Bitcoin (N39 million) was lost during the event as people anticipated returns to no avail.
The scam website is currently down but the victims likely have no means of recovering their money.
