Aliko Dangote Tops Forbes Africa’s Wealth List as Adenuga and Rabiu Gain Big

  • Aliko Dangote retains his crown as the richest man in Africa, as his wealth surged to $14 billion this year
  • Dangote is followed by Mike Adenuga and Abdulsamad Rabiu, who occupy 2nd and 3rd place respectively

Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has retained his spot as the richest man in Africa for the 11th consecutive year. This is according to the yearly released Forbes World Billionaire List.

The latest update to the list shows that Dangote’s fortune has surged to $14 billion from $12.1 billion last year.

The Northern-Nigeria businessman is followed by another Nigerian billionaire, Mike Adenuga. The Chairman of telecommunication giant, Globacom, has seen his wealth rise to $7.3 billion from $6.1 billion in 2021.

Adenuga recovers his spot as the second richest person in Africa, after his fortune dipped in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic. The Globacom founder has also moved up to 345 on the global list of billionaires.

Abdulsamad Rabiu, the chairman of BUA Group also recorded an increase in his fortune, as he came in at 3rd. The billionaire’s wealth surged to $6.8 billion from $5.5 billion in 2021.

Unfortunately, no female Nigerian billionaire made the list as Folorunso Alakija remains below the $1 billion mark, due to uncertainties in the oil market.

According to the Magazine’s latest ranking, there are 2,668 billionaires in the world, seven fewer than in 2021.
