Meta Takes Giant Step Towards the Metaverse with 8 Digital Assets Filing

  • Facebook owner, Meta has filed eight trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark office
  • The tech giant is seeking permission for service offerings relating to blockchain technology and the Metaverse
  • The filings also cover cryptocurrencies, crypto trading, blockchain software, crypto wallets, and crypto exchanges

Meta Inc. has taken a giant step towards its Metaverse ambition as the tech giant filed eight new trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for Metaverse and crypto-related services.

The filings were announced by USPTO-licensed trademark attorney, Mike Kondoudis on Wednesday as he disclosed that they were made on March 18.

The filings with serial numbers: 97320155, 97320153, 97320149, 97320147, 97320146, 97320144, 97320140, and 97320136 cover Metaverse and services such as crypto tokens, cryptocurrencies, blockchain software, crypto exchanges, and crypto trading.

Kondoudis further added that the application will serve as a blueprint for how the company intends to operate in the Metaverse.

Meta’s crypto and virtual world filings follow a similar step that has been taken by companies such as Mcdonald’s, Burger King, and Panda Express.

Burger King filed its trademark application on the same day as Meta and it covers NFTs, blockchain software, cryptocurrency trading.

It is assumed that the services will not be introduced anytime soon as it can take up to eight months for the USPTO to process trademark applications.

 

The Metaverse has been categorised as an $8 trillion opportunity by Global investment bank, Goldman Sachs and many top brands are trying to position their business for the virtual world before it takes off.
