Pharmacy Gives Incorrect COVID 19 Vaccine Doses to Children

  • More than 100 children have been administered incorrect doses of the COVID 19 vaccine by a pharmacy in Loudon County, Virginia
  • The children aged 5-11-year-old, mistakenly received vaccine doses meant for 12-year-olds and above
  • Officials have disclosed that the pharmacy has been removed from the state’s vaccine program

A report from Bussiness Insider has revealed that 112 children were offered incorrect COVID 19 vaccine doses.

The incident happened at the pharmacy in Loudon County, Virginia we’re children aged 5 to 11, received vaccine doses meant for kids 12 and above.

While the vials contain the active ingredients for both age ranges, the vials for kids 12 and over contain ingredients that are 3 times more concentrated.

The county disclosed that the pharmacy responsible for this mishap is Ted Pharmacy.

The pharmacy didn’t have the formulation for under-12s so it administered 1/3 of the vials in the adult formulation.

Dr. David Goodfriend, director at Loudoun County Health Department stated that this error may mean that the kids got less than the required dose.

He said:

“The concern is when you cut the amount given by a third, we just don’t know if they got an appropriate dosage or not,”

State officials have disclosed that Ted Pharmacy will be removed from the state’s vaccination program.
