Nigerian singer Wizkid and social media aid to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie were engaged in a Twitter brawl over Wizkid’s ”Old Man’ reference of the president.
Wizkid whose real name is Ayo Balogun called out the president on Twitter over the weekend in the heat of the #EndSARS campaign. In a goodwill tweet the president had made to ailing United States president Donald Trump, wishing him quick recovery from COVID-19, Wizkid had replied to president Buhari’s tweet urging him to concentrate on his country and rectify the menace of police brutality.

The tweet generated mixed reaction from the public on the basis of whether the ‘Old Man’ reference was disrespectful and denigrating of an elder such as President Buhari. The debate was however already dying down as the days went by until yesterday Monday 6 October, 2020 when the aide to the president on Social Media took a swipe at Wizkid in a strongly worded tweet.

Typical of Wizkid, he immediately fired back at Ms Lauretta that the president is 77 years old and by age an ”Old man”. And that it was shameful of her as a woman and mother for not condemning police brutality but was instead focused on trivial issues.
