The social platform revealed that it has not yet decided if the Twitter downvote and upvotes will be made permanent in the future
Social media giant Twitter has announced that it is working on upvote and downvote buttons that will accompany tweets.
The platform confirmed that it was testing the feature on a group of iOS users to determine the replies that are relevant in a long thread conversation.
For now, the social platform has revealed that the Twitter downvote and upvote feature is not permanent and will only allow them to determine the kind of content that people want to see more.
Twitter support said;
“Some of you on iOS may see different options to up or down vote on replies. We’re testing this to understand the types of replies you find relevant in a convo, so we can work on ways to show more of them. “
Unlike how vote buttons are used on Reddit, Twitter revealed that the number of positive or negative votes will not impact the order of tweets.
The platform also disclosed that for people that will be provided with the feature, their up and downvotes will be visible to only them.

Following the announcement, there have been mixed reactions among users about Twitter downvote and upvote. While some people consider it a good innovation, others are worried that the feature may increase bullying on social media.
Replying to Twitter support, a user with the handle “Radness” commented “good feature”.
Another user, “Kesairin” said
“I feel like this will just encourage people to search for content they don’t like just to dislike it and fight with people. Dislikes aren’t even public so why should they be there to begin with”
