Facebook’s Meta Updates Privacy Policy

Facebook’s Meta Updates Privacy Policy

  • Users of Meta products like Facebook and Instagram will be receiving notifications of the company’s updated policies.
  • The updated policies are in a bid to make it easier to understand how customers’ information is used.
  • WhatsApp, which is also a Meta product will not be affected by the updated policies.

Facebook owner Meta will be updating its privacy policies. In light of this, users of Meta products like Facebook and Whatsapp are expected to start receiving notifications of the company’s updated policies.

According to Meta, these new changes are constructed to enable users of its products to understand how their information is being used.

This new update is coming after the company was previously criticized for its use of customers’ data by regulators and campaigners.

It is pertinent for our readers to note that Whatsapp will not in any way be affected by these changes in privacy policies.

The updated privacy policies encompass:

1. Control over posts: with this update, Meta will not be able to collect, use or share your data in new ways.

Users can now control how they want their information processed following two changes.

A new option will allow users to select who can view their posts by default and also users can now control adverts they view, all consolidated into a single interface.

Information about when the company may disable accounts and also details about what happens when an account gets deleted will be provided.

2.Regulatory headwinds: the changes, which come into effect on 26 July, are, Meta says, an attempt to reconcile a desire to reduce the complexity of policies.

3. Shifting responsibility: this update is in an attempt to provide greater transparency. According to Stephanie Hare, author of Technology Is Not Neutral, “This is Meta moving to technology realpolitik.”

Meta made it clear that users do not need to do anything in response to the new update policies to continue using meta products. People who do not want to accept these new changes are free to leave their services.
