eBay Launches NFT Collection, Jumps Into Digital Market

eBay has become the latest company to launch its first Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collection as it plans to make a series of NFT drops.

The top multinational e-commerce company has become the first to enter the digital collectibles market.

The token will be minted on the polygon. For the drops, the company has collaborated with OneOf, a web 3 platform, to ensure its continuity. The NFT collection features 3D and animated interpretations of sports illustrated covers of athletic idols. 

The Genesis collection features Canadian iconic hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, allowing his signature moves on the ice. 

More collections are to be dropped this year by eBay and OneOf as plans are made towards that. The price of the collectibles will start from $10, and they are categorized into green, gold, platinum, and diamond.

According to a press release, eBay VP of collectibles, electronics, and home, Dawn Block, made it known that the company is committed to offering its customers high-value items. He also added that they are aware of the roles and impacts of revolutionary NFTs and Blockchain in the collectible space. 

He further added that the company is highly committed to making more NFTs accessible to a new generation of collectors worldwide through partnering with OneOf. 

In his words, Dawn Block said:

“Through our partnership with OneOf, eBay is now making coveted NFTs more accessible to a new generation of collectors everywhere. This builds upon our commitment to deliver high passion, high-value items to the eBay community of buyers and sellers,”

CEO of OneOf, Lin Dai, also stated that through partnering with eBay, web3 technology can be accessible to the 100 million native non-crypto consumers. 

Earlier this month, eBay began listing NFTs for sale, making eBay the first e-commerce company to do so.

Although it is very much ahead in terms of an e-commerce company that supports NFTsh, several digital currency key places have cut out its works.

The company is also considering accepting digital currency despite previously denying rumors that it would start accepting them.
