5 Tragic Deaths That Happened on Movie Sets

Hollywood Actor Alec Benjamin accidentally shot and killed Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop gun on Thursday night.

According to a statement from the Sheriff’s office, the 63-year-old actor pulled the trigger of the gun and the bullet struck Hutchins and the director, Joel Souza.

Hutchins was rushed to the hospital on an available helicopter where she eventually died as a result of the injuries.

Souza was also taken to a medical center in an ambulance and he survived the incident after receiving emergency service.

According to a 2016 study by the Associated Press, more than 43 people have died on movie sets since 1990, with over 150 suffering serious injuries.

Son of martial artist Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee is one of the most famous stars to have died on the set of a movie.

The 28-year-old actor was killed after another actor fired a prop gun that contained a real bullet during the filming of “The Crow”.

The tragic death cut short the career of the ascending star and also sparked a debate about the use of firearms on movie sets.

Olivia Jackson (2017)

In August 2017, Stuntwoman Joi “S.J.” Harris died on the set of the popular marvel movie “Deadpool 2”.

Harris who was a professional motorcycle rider crashed through the window of a building during filming.

The stunt performer was ejected from the motorcycle that she was operating and died immediately.

Sarah Jones (2014)

Sarah Jones, a camera assistant died on the set of the movie “Midnight Rider,”, which details the story of musician Gregg Allman.

Jones was one of those trying to place a bed across the tracks when a train appeared at high speed, killing her and injuring many others.

John Bernecker (Walking Dead)

A stuntman for AMC’s “The Walking Dead”, John Bernecker is one of the casualties of accidents on movie sets.

Mr. Bernecker who had been a stunt man since 2009, fell on the balcony set in Georgia.

Following the incident, the filming of the eighth season of the show wa temporarily paused and a lawsuit was filed against AMC and the production company Stalwart Films.

Michael Bridger (2012)

In 2012, Michael Bridger, a diver and crew member of “The Lone Ranger,” drowned on one of the movie sets.

According to the Associated Press, the film company paid $61,445 as a fine for negligence, causing his death.
