According to Nairametrics, the Nigerian Communications Commission confirmed that Starlink had been given two licenses for operation in Nigeria.
The licenses given to the company are the International Gateway license and Internet Service Provider license. The internet service company will operate as Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd in the country.
The commission revealed that the International Gateway and the ISP licenses have 10-year and 5-year tenure respectively and both licenses take effect from May 2022. The company may choose to renew the license after expiry.
Starlink’s Market Access Director for Africa, Ryan Goodnight along with SpaceX consultant, Levin Born visited Nigeria in 2021 and announced an interest in obtaining an operating license.
