Donald Trump Twitter Ban: Elon Musk to Unlock Ex-President’s Account

  • Twitter banned the ex-POTUS on January 6, 2021, after alleging that he instigated the US Capitol riot.
  • Trump has since gone on to open his own social media platform, Truth Social.

On Tuesday, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk announced that he would lift Twitter’s ban on Donald Trump when he completes the acquisition of the company.

While speaking at the Financial Times conference he said, “I would reverse the permanent ban,”. He, however, went on to note that he doesn’t own the social media company yet.

The billionaire’s $44 billion deal for Twitter must first still secure backing from shareholders and go through regulators before it can be completed.

Musk went on to say that he doesn’t think that it was right to ban the then president of the United States.

“I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country, and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

The Donald Trump Twitter ban was issued after supporters were alleged to have been triggered by his tweets to storm the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The crowd invaded the building, aiming to stop Joe Biden from being certified as the winner of the presidential election.

Musk suggested a timeout when people say “destructive” things, rather than completely booting them off the platform.

Since the Donald Trump Twitter ban, the ex-president has launched his own social media platform called Truth social. He also claimed that he isn’t returning to Twitter even if his account is reinstated.
