46 People Killed as Fire Destroys 13 Story Building

  • About 46 people have been confirmed dead with dozens more injured after a fire outbreak in Taiwan
  • The incident occurred at a building in the southern area of the country on Thursday
  • Rescue operations are still being carried out as 377 rescue workers try to save residents that are trapped in the building

At least 46 people have been killed after a fire outbreak at a 13 story building in southern Taiwan on Thursday.

Authorities disclosed that the huge commercial and residential building went up in flames around 2:54 a.m. local time.

377 rescue workers have been deployed to the scene in a bid to salvage the situation as 41 people have been confirmed injured.

The death toll was initially put at only seven but the city’s fire chief Lee Ching-has disclosed that it is significantly more than that because many are still trapped in the residential part of the building.

A total of 139 trucks and ambulances were sent to the scene and they successfully out the fire around 7:17 a.m.

More than 62 people have been reduced from the building so far, most of them between the ages of 8 and 83.

More than 100 residents, most of them elders with disabilities have been disclosed to live in the building.
