President Muhammadu Buhari officially launched the long-awaited digital currency eNaira under the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) on Monday, October 25, 2021 before leaving the country for a conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mr Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as well as other government officials and private businessmen, accompanied him at the unveiling.

Nigerians were able to utilize the mobile app for running the digital national legal money with the theme “Same Naira, More Possibilities” once it was activated and downloadable from Google Play Store and IOS Store under the name eNaira Speed Wallet app.

Many Nigerians attempted to download and install the app for financial transactions primarily from the Google Play store. The reviews trailing the release of the app has, however, been disturbing. Some users were satisfied with the user interface. Many expressed their dissatisfaction with issues encountered during registration, such as the need for the user’s e-mail address to be linked with their Bank Verification Number (BVN).

Some reported that despite submitting their details, it pops up with an error. Even worse, after some re-attemps, it says you have made too many attempts with the same BVN. Hence, a good number of people were unable to register.

The Central Bank of Nigeria through its Google Play account directed the dissatisfied users to contact the helpdesk on helpdesk@enaira.gov.ng to air their complaints. The apex bank also affirmed that the app prevents users from repeatedly attempts during registration but only for 30 minutes.

Users must first download the eNaira’s’speed wallet,’ which allows them to execute transactions quickly and easily. It is a distributed ledger that maintains and manages the eNaira in digital storage. As of Tuesday evening, the Speed Wallet had a 2.0 rating from 2, 150 reviews, with many users complaining of bugs and glitches.
