The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that half of Europe will be infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 with 6 to 8 weeks.
Dr. Hans Kluge disclosed that a wave of the variant was sweeping across the continent following a surge of the Delta variant that happened last year.
The protection of WHO was based on over 7 million cases reported in Europe in the first week of 2022. In the last two weeks, the rate of infection has more than doubled.
A pair portion of Dr. Kluge’s statement during the news conference can be seen below:
“Today the Omicron variant represents a new west-to-east tidal wave, sweeping across the region on top of the Delta surge that all countries were managing until late 2021,”
His prediction was based on the Seattle-based Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

Kluge also warned that Central Asian countries also remained under intends pressure as the virus spread to the Balkans.
Also, recent studies suggest that the effect of Omicron is less severe, its high transmissibility rate has put health systems under severe strain.
