Deadly COVID 19 Delta Variant Discovered in Oyo State

  • Oyo state has recorded its first case of the dreaded COVID 19 Delta variant according to the Oyo State Coronavirus Task Force
  • This is coming only a few days after Nigeria recorded its first case in a passenger during a mandatory test for travellers
  • The Delta variant is a more transmissible strain of the virus that has led to higher infection in most countries of the world

The Oyo State Coronavirus Task Force has announced that it had recorded its first case of the dreaded COVID 19 Delta variant.

COVID 19 Delta variant in Ibadan

Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa issued a statement on behalf of the COVID task force warning the public to be aware of the situation.

Mr Adisa urged the public to be careful and take extra precautions, including abiding by all COVID 19 protocols that have been laid down by the task force.

The first case has also been confirmed by the coordinator of the Emergency Operations Centre, Dr Olabode Ladipo.

Naija FM had reported that Nigeria recorded its first case of the Delta variant last week.

The detested strain was discovered in a passenger during routine tests for international travellers.

The COVID 19 Delta Variant, also known as lineage B.1.617.2. is a more transmissible strain of the COVID virus and the first case was recorded last year in Asia.
